The Foundation for the Promotion of the Arts presents two solo exhibitions by artists living in Vienna: "Parallel Actions 1" by Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair and "Parallel Actions 2" by Wolfgang Obermair. The exhibition features new objects and a video. The artists' main theme is the ambivalence between the created and the found object. Their works are not sculptures in the conventional sense - they interact with the entire exhibition space, transforming it into an overall installation that is noisy and irritating.
In the art of the 20th century, one of the moments of synthesis of the concept, political-social issues and the cult of materiality was the art movement of the 1960s. "New Realism", which succeeded in uniting contradictions through the demonstration and reflection of the everyday object world. The focus on the thing and its material substance does not limit art to its representational function and at the same time does not deny the importance of the concept in art. The thing speaks for itself.
The word "parallel" in the title of the exhibitions does not only imply that they take place at the same time in the same place. The temporal and spatial frameworks are much broader. They include both a conscious reference to the "parallel" and the "parallel".
