Index
hoast is an independent artist-run space in Vienna, founded and directed by visual artists Wolfgang Obermair and Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair. Since its foundation, hoast has hosted around a hundred exhibitions and events, and has initiated projects in cities abroad including Odesa, Prague, Turin, and Madrid. The curatorial program connects local and international art scenes with a particular focus on artistic positions from Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe—a geographic emphasis rooted in Vienna’s geopolitical location. At its core, hoast understands art as a means of political action: fostering solidarity, low-threshold access, and collegial dialogue across scenes and generations. In 2020, hoast was awarded the City of Vienna Off-Space Prize.
